Whereas R. R. Butler, Representative-elect from the first congressional district of Tennessee, performed honorable service in the Army of the United States from September, 1863, till May, 1864: Therefore, [-e868594]

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States in Congress assembled, That any[+e868594]the[-e868594] disabilities imposed by the Constitution or acts of Congress known as the reconstruction acts [+e868594]upon Roderick R. Butler,[+e868594] of Tennessee, in consequen[+e868594]by for[-e868594]ce of participation in [+e868594]the recent rebellion, he, and the same are hereby remov[+e868594]act of Congress entitl[-e868594]ed.[+e868594] [-e868594]And the said Butler, on entering upon[+e868594] act to provide for[-e868594] the discharg[+e868594]mor[-e868594]e of th[+e868594]e duties of any o[+e868594]ffice to wh[+e868594]ich he has be[+e868594]en or may be elected or appointed, instead[+e868594]t government[-e868594] of the oath prescribed by the act of July[+e868594]rebel States,” passed March[-e868594] 2, 1862, shall take and subscribe the followi[+e868594]7, and the act of Co[-e868594]ng oath: I, Rode[+e868594]rick R. Butl[+e868594]er, do [+e868594]solemnly [+e868594]swear (or affirm) that[+e868594] support and defend[+e868594]lementary[-e868594] the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign[+e868594]reto, passed March 23, 1867,[-e868594] and domestic; [+e868594]that I will bear true faith and allegiance to[+e868594]e act supplementary[-e868594] the same; that I take this obligation freely, without[+e868594]reto, passed July 19, 1867,[-e868594] and b[-e868594]y mental reservation or purpose of eva[+e868594]any provi[-e868594]sion, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties[+e868594] of the Constitution[-e868594] of the office on which I am about to enter; so help me Go[+e868594]United States, are hereby remove[-e868594]d.
