Lazarus W. Powell

(6 October, 1812 -- 3 July, 1867) Powell was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Henderson, Henderson County, Ky., Powell studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1835. Powell was a member of the State house of representatives in 1836 and was the governor of Kentucky from 1851 to 1855. Powell was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate and served from March 4th, 1859 to March 3th, 1865.
