Lewis B. Gunkel

(October 15, 1826 — October 3, 1903) Lewis Gunckel was an American politician and lawyer. Gunckel was born in Germantown, Ohio in 1826. He graduated from Farmer’s College in 1848, studied law at Cincinnati College, and was admitted to the bar in 1851. He served in various capacities including member of the Republican National Convention (1856) and member of the State Senate (1862-1865). Later Gunckel served on the Board of Managers of the National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, and as a United States commissioner to investigate frauds practiced on Native Americans. He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875. After his service in Congress, Gunckel resumed practicing law until his death in 1903.
