The Civil Rights Act of 1875

Benjamin F. Meyers

(July 6, 1833 — August 11, 1918) Benjamin Franklin Meyers was an American politician, lawyer, and publisher. Meyers was born in New Centerville, Pennsylvania in 1833. He attended Jefferson College (now Washington and Jefferson College), and was admitted to the bar in 1855. Meyers served as a member of the State House of Representatives in 1864, and later as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions spanning from 1864 to 1900. He also worked as editor of the Bedford Gazette and Harrisburg Daily Patriot. Meyers was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1873. After serving in Congress, Meyers returned to working in published, and later became engaged in pubic utilities until his death in 1918.
