The Civil Rights Act of 1875

William B. Read

(December 14, 1817 — August 5, 1880) Read was an American politician and lawyer. William Brown Read was born in Hardin County, Kentucky in 1817. There, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1849. While practicing law, Read also served as a member of the State Senate from 1857 to 1865 and the State House of Representatives from 1867 to 1869. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1875.
