Robert B. Roosevelt
(August 7, 1829 — June 14, 1906) Robert Barnwell Roosevelt was a lawyer, politician, and editor. Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1829, and was the uncle of Theodore Roosevelt. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1850. Roosevelt practiced law and also acted as editor of the New York Citizen newspaper for many years. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1873. After serving in Congress, he held many other political positions including Minister to The Hague, treasurer of the Democratic National Committee, and Board of Alderman in New York City.
