Orza P. Stearns
(January 15, 1831 — June 2, 1896) Stearns was an American politician, lawyer, and judge. Ozora Stearns was born in St. Lawrence County, New York, but grew up in Ohio. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he moved to Minnesota where he was admitted to the bar and practiced law. He was elected as the prosecuting attorney for Olmstead County and later served as mayor of Rochester from 1866 to 1868. He enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War and served as a lieutenant and colonel. Stearns was elected to the United States Senate as a Republican to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Daniel Norton. He served in the Senate for a short time, from January 23 to March 3, 1871.
