Ephraim L. Acker

(January 11, 1827 — May 12, 1903) Ephraim Leister Acker was a medical doctor, teacher, publisher, editor, and politician. Acker was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in 1827. After graduating from Marshall College in 1847, he taught school while studying medicine at. University of Pennsylvania. He graduated in March 1852. Acker worked as an editor and publisher from 1854 to 1860, before being appointed postmaster by President Buchanan. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from 1871 to 1873. After his service in Congress, Acker studied law and was admitted to the bar before his death in 1903.
