William T. Hamilton

(September 8, 1820 — October 26, 1888) Hamilton was an American lawyer and politician. Hamilton was born in Washington County, Maryland and attended Brown’s School and Jefferson College. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1845. Hamilton was a member of the State House of Delegates in 1846 and 1848. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1849 to March 3, 1855. He was again elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1875. Before his death in 1888, he served as Governor of Maryland from 1879 to 1883.
