Rufus Mallory

(January 10, 1831 -- April 30, 1914) Rufus Mallory as a(n) teacher, lawyer, public servant, special agent, and American politician. He was born in Coventry, Chenango County, New York and moved to Roseburg, Oregon in 1858. Mallory studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1860. He was a district attorney of the 1st judicial district (1860), district attorney of the 3rd district (1862-1866), member of the state house of representatives (1862 and 1872), served as speaker of the state house of representatives (1872), delegate to the Republican National Conventions (1868 and 1888), United States district attorney (1874 - 1882), and was commissioned as special agent of the United States Government at Singapore, British Malaya. Rufus was elected as a Republican to the 40th Congress (March 4, 1867 - March 3, 1869) and was not reelected.
