Whereas R. R. Butler, Representative-elect from the first congressional district of Tennessee, performed honorable service in the Army of the United States from September, 1863, till May, 1864: Therefore,

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States in Congress assembled, That all legal and political[+e868685]the[-e868685] disabilities imposed by the United States[+e868685] upon Roderick R. Butler,[+e868685] of Tennessee, in consequen[+e868685]by for[-e868685]ce of participation in [+e868685]the recent rebellion, be, and the same are hereby, remov[+e868685]act of Congress entitl[-e868685]ed.[+e868685] “[-e868685]And the said Butler, on entering upon[+e868685] act to provide for[-e868685] the discharg[+e868685]mor[-e868685]e of duti[+e868685]es of any o[+e868685]ffice to wh[+e868685]ich he has be[+e868685]en or may be elected or appointed, instead[+e868685]t government[-e868685] of the oath prescribed by the act of July[+e868685]rebel States,” passed March[-e868685] 2, 1862[+e868685]7[-e868685], shall take [+e868685]and subscribe [+e868685]the following oath: I, Roderick R. Butler, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will[+e868685]act of Congress[-e868685] support and defend[+e868685]lementary[-e868685] the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign[+e868685]reto, passed March 23, 1867,[-e868685] and domestic; [+e868685]that I will bear true faith and allegiance to[+e868685]e act supplementary[-e868685] the same; that I take this obligation free[+e868685]reto, passed Ju[-e868685]ly 19[-e868685], without[+e868685]1867,[-e868685] and b[-e868685]y mental reservation or purpose of eva[+e868685]any provi[-e868685]sion, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties[+e868685] of the Constitution[-e868685] of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me Go[+e868685]United States, are hereby remove[-e868685]d.
