A Bill

For the further security of equal rights in the District of Columbia.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the word “white,” wherever it occurs [+e866265]in the laws relating to the [+e866265]District of Columbia or i[+e866265]n the charter [+e866265]or ordinances of the[+e866265] city of Washington or Georgetown, and operates as a limitation on the right of[+e866265]izen, being[-e866265] any[+e866265] elector of said District or either of said cities to hold[+e866265], shall be excluded from[-e866265] any office,[-e866265] or to[+e866265]from[-e866265] being[-e866265] selected and to serve a[+e866265]s a juror, be and the same is hereb[+e866265]y repe[+e866265]aled; and it [+e866265]shall be unlawful f[+e866265]or a[+e866265]ny person or[+e866265] officer[+e866265] to enfo[+e866265]ra[-e866265]ce or attempt to enforce said limitation after the passage of this[+e866265]color,[-e866265] act. Sec. 2. A[+e866265]nd be it further enacted, That the supreme court[+e866265]so much[-e866265] of the District of Columbia sitt[+e866265]all laws mak[-e866265]ing for the trial of [+e866265]any such dis[-e866265]crimes and [+e866265]misdemea[+e866265]nors be, [+e866265]and is hereby, au[+e866265]thor[+e866265]ized t[+e866265]o order draw[+e866265]n from the jury-box provided for th[+e866265]at pu[+e866265]rpos[+e866265]e, and[+e866265] in t[+e866265]he manne[+e866265]r provid[+e866265]ed [+e866265]by law, the necessary, grand and [+e866265]re[-e866265]petit jurors for the June term of the crimin[+e866265]al court for the year 1867[+e866265]ed[-e866265].
