A Serjeant-at-Arms[+e127131]It[-e127131] shall be appoin[+e127131]th[-e127131]ed, to hold his[+e127131] office during the pleasure[+e127131]and duty[-e127131] of the House, whose duty if shall be[+e127131]a Serjeant-at-Arms,[-e127131] to attend the House during its sitting, to execute the commands of the House,[-e127131] from time to time, and all such process, issued by authority thereof, as shall be directed to him by the Speaker, and either by himself, or special messengers appointed by him, to take and detain in his custody members or other persons ordered by the House to be taken or committed[-e127131].

A proper symbol of office shall be provided fa[+e127133]o[-e127133]r the Serj[+e127133]g[-e127133]eant-at-Arms, of such form and device as the Speaker shall direct, which shall be borne by[+e127133]placed on the Clerk's table during the sitting of the House, but when the House is in committee, shall be placed under[-e127133] the table. The [-e127133]Serg[+e127133]j[-e127133]eant-at-Arms[-e127133] shall, moreover, al[-e127133]ways bear t[-e127133]hen in t[+e127133] said symbol w[-e127133]hen[-e127133] executing the immediate c[-e127133]omma[-e127133]nds[-e127133] of t[-e127133]he House, dur[-e127133]ing it[-e127133]s off[+e127133]sitting, returning the same to the Clerk's table when the serv[-e127133]ice is performed[-e127133].

The fees of[+e127135]Every member, or other person, ordered into custody, shall pay to[-e127135] the Serjeant-at-Arms shall be,[+e127135][-e127135] for every arrest, the sum of two dollars,[+e127135]and —[-e127135] for each day's custody and releasement, one dollar; and[+e127135]; also — per mile,[-e127135] for travelling expenses, going and returning, one-t[+e127135]unless the paym[-e127135]enth[+e127135] there[-e127135]of sh[-e127135]a do[+e127135]llar per mil[+e127135] be remitted by the Hous[-e127135]e.
