Sempronius H. Boyd

The Civil Rights Act of 1875

(28 May, 1828 -- 22 June, 1894) Boyd was an American soldier, lawyer, and politician. Born Williamson County, Tenn., Boyd moved to Missouri in 1854. Boyd studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1856, afterwards becoming the mayor of Springfield. During the Civil War, Boyd served as a colonel, however, resigned when elected as an Unconditional Unionist to the Thirty-eighth Congress. After serving in various public offices, Boyd was again elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress.
