John D. Baldwin

United States Fourteenth Amendment & The Civil Rights Act of 1866

(28 September, 1809 -- 8 July, 1883) Baldwin was an American preacher and politician. Born in North Stonington, Conn., Baldwin began to study law but discontinued to study Theology instead. Baldwin was licensed to preach by 1834 and member of the State house of representatives (1847-1852). After moving to Massachusetts, Baldwin was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth, Thirty-ninth, and Fortieth Congresses.
