Josiah B. Grinnell

United States Thirteenth Amendment 1863-65

(22 December, 1821 -- 31 March, 1891) Grinnell was an American pastor, lawyer, businessman and politician. Born in New Haven, Addison County, Vt., Grinnell moved to Iowa in 1851. While living there, Grinnell founded the town of Grinnell, Poweshiek County, and also Grinnell University. From 1856 to 1860, Grinnell was a member of the State senate. In 1858, Grinnell completed his study of law and was admitted to the bar. Grinnell was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth and Thirty-ninth Congresses serving from March 4th, 1863 to March 3rd, 1867.
