William Wright

United States Thirteenth Amendment 1863-65

(13 November, 1794 -- 1 November, 1866) Wright was an American saddlery businessman and politician. Born in Clarksville, Rockland County, N.Y., Wright served in Connecticut in the War of 1812 and moved to New Jersey in 1821 to run a saddlery and leather business. Wright was the mayor of Newark from 1840 to 1843 and was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-eighth and Twenty-ninth Congresses . In 1853, Wright was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate and reelected after a brief separation in 1863.
