Lafayette S. Foster

United States Fourteenth Amendment & The Civil Rights Act of 1866

(22 November, 1806 -- 19 September, 1880) Foster was an American lawyer, editor, and politician. He was born in Franklin, New London County, Conn., and was admitted to the bar in 1831. Foster was the editor of The Republican, a Whig newspaper, and was a member of the State house of representatives 1839-1840, 1846-1848, and 1854. In 1854, Foster was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate and was reelected in 1860.
