The Road to Civil War

Reuben E. Fenton

(4 July, 1819 -- 25 August, 1885) Fenton was an American lawyer, businessman, and politician. Born in Chautauqua County, N.Y., Fenton was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress and subsequently elected to the Thirty-fifth and to the three succeeding Congresses when he resigned to serve as Governor of New York. Afterwards, Fenton was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate and served from March 4th, 1869, until March 3rd, 1875.
