Ira Harris

(31 May, 1802 -- 2 December, 1875) Harris was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Charleston, Montgomery County, N.Y., Harris studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1827. Harris was a delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1846 and a member of the State senate in 1847. Additionally, Harris served as justice of the State supreme court from 1847 until 1859 when he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate.
