Charles V. Culver

"(September 6, 1830 -- January 10, 1909) Charles Vernon Culver was a(n) merchant, establisher of banks, and American politician. Culver was born in Logan, Hocking County, Ohio and moved to Reno, Venango County, Pennsylvania. Culver helped to develop oil in Venango County, Pennsylvania and helped establish national banks in 13 cities throughout the east. He was elected as a Republican to the 39th Congress (March 4, 1865 - March 3, 1867) and was not reelected in 1866. While he was a member of Congress he became bankrupt and was imprisoned in 1866, but he was later acquitted.
