(20 March, 1808 -- 14 June, 1870) Eliot was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Boston, Mass., Eliot studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1831. Eliot was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Zeno Scudder and served from April 17th, 1854 to March 3rd, 1855. Later, after declining various opportunities for candidacy, Eliot was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth and to the four succeeding Congresses.
