Benjamin F. Harding

United States Thirteenth Amendment 1863-65

(4 January, 1823 -- 16 June, 1899) Harding was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Wyoming County, Pa., Harding studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1847. Harding moved to Oregon in 1850 and afterwards served as clerk of the Territorial Legislature. Harding was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Edward D. Baker and served as Senator until he retired in 1865.
